9 Months Old April 25, 2009

On Saturday the twins turned 9 months old!! Gosh they are getting so big and so much fun!! Unfortunately, towards the end of last week and over the weekend the boys had TERRIBLE colds. We took them to the doctor on Thursday and they had fevers of 101-103, pink-eye and a terrible virus that left Joel hoarse (as you could tell from the video in the previous post) and they felt terrible so we were giving them lots of Motrin, Benadryl and Amoxicillian and putting eye drops in their eyes....poor guys!! BUT....they are much better now and are having a GREAT week at daycare!
Jackson and Joel are moving like crazy, they are crawling all over the place and cruising around the furniture all the time. They love all the different foods and their favorite...anything we're eating! And we give them pieces of pretty much anything and everything to try. We took them to their 9 month check-up on Monday here are their stats:

Jackson
Weight: 18lbs. 11oz. (80th percentile)
Length: 28 1/4 inches (60th percentile)
Head circumference: 17 3/4 inches (50th percentile)

Joel
Weight: 18lbs. 2oz. (20th percentile)
Length: 29 inches (80th percentile)
Head circumference: 18 inches (60th percentile)

"Momma, I can't cry"

Poor Joel, he can't babble, can't say, "Dadda, dadda" and can't cry...he is so hoarse and his poor little throat hurts so bad it just breaks my heart. This video is so cute of him. We're feeding them their bottles before bed and Joel was so tired he was trying to cry but nothing would come out, he makes the saddest faces and notice his little lip curls up. Poor Joel mommy and daddy love you baby! I shouldn't forget about Jackson his spirits are high and he just acts like the happiest baby.

Are you still pumping?

I've had a lot of people ask me how pumping was going and if I was still doing it. Well I am excited to say that I'm done!! My last pump was last Saturday at 6AM. My original schedule was to pump milk every 1.5 to 2 hours and I did this for the first 6 months. Then I extended my schedule to every 4 hours and then 6 hours, then 9 hours. Last MondayI went 12 hours between pumps and by the end of the week I was down to pumping at 24 hours and then 36 hours was my last one! I think because of the way that I cut down I haven't had any soreness or leaking and its been almost a week since my last pump. So last Saturday I had my first glass of wine while I was at the spa and it tasted oh so good!!! Oh and another question I get is about my frozen milk. I have over 350 bags each with 5-6 oz in them (the boys are taking 3-6oz. bottles a day) so I'm so proud that I have enough milk to get them to if not a few weeks past their 1st birthday which was my goal when I started. So that's my update on pumping or the lack there of now!

The Twins 1st Tooth

Well on Sunday while we were at Target buying new car seats for the boys we noticed that Joel had a little white dot on his lower gum. So we felt and sure enough it was sharp and of course he didn't want us touching his sore gums. We had no idea he was cutting teeth he has been so happy. Our pediatrician told us both of the boys' gums have been swollen since their 4 month check-up but finally we see something popping through now.
Yesterday morning Joel woke up and was burning up and I took his temp and it was 100.1. I thought let the fun of the 1st tooth popping through begin! I knew the boys were going to be the only ones at daycare yesterday so we took them both. They were crabby all day, snot running from their noses constantly, and just wanting to be held all day...poor guys!!
When we got home last night Joel didn't stop crying!! He just wanted his momma so I held him while Jon fed Jackson. Oh and at this point we hadn't seen or felt anything in Jackson's mouth but he did have a high temp just like Joel. I put a cold rag on Joel's head, which he hated, he started shaking like he was freezing so we just sat and rocked back and forth for the most of the night and he fell asleep on my chest....which he hasn't done since they were really little. Jon was doing the same with Jackson and they were both so exhausted and they just slept on us for about 45 minutes.
We headed upstairs for baths at 6:45 and normally they sit in there and play for 30 minutes but last night they wanted in and out so we fed them their bottle laid them in their cribs and they were out by 7:05!!! Jon and I knew it could be a rough night so we were both asleep by 8:20...I know we're loser but who knew if we'd be up all night. Well....Jackson didn't move all night...he was just so exhausted, we'd given him Motrin and Benadryl, he still had his fever but was sound asleep. Joel on the other hand was up about every 3 hours, he couldn't breathe cause he was so stuffy so he moved from his car seat (to be propped up) back to his crib (which we also had elevated) about 4 times last night...it wasn't nearly as bad as we thought and we are both a little tired this morning but hopefully that was the worst of it! Both of their fevers broke by the time we got them up at 5:15 this morning and they wanted to play, so that was a good sign but they are still really snotty so we'll see how the day and week progress. Enjoy some cute pictures from last night.

The Ringmaster!!

Joel LOVES his rings, LOVES them to pieces!! They are by far his favorite toy right now and he takes them everywhere......
while he crawls, we call him gorilla man....

while he eats in his highchair..... while he's cruising around the furniture..... and even while he has a temperature of 101 and is cutting teeth!!!! (you can see he has not only the green ring but a blue one in his left hand while he's sleeping on me!)

Oh and he tried to take them into the bath too but they fill up with water!! I did let him take them to bed and needless to say they ended up on the floor because he threw them out.

Chocolate Bunny

My mom and dad put a chocolate bunny in the boys' Easter basket, so we thought it would be fun to strip them down and let me go at it!! It sure was fun to watch them lick and lick and lick...not so much fun to clean up!!

Jackson's and Joel's 1st Easter

The boys had a GREAT 1st Easter. On Sunday we woke up about 9 and had out little egg hunt...well egg scatter I would call it on the living room floor. The boys weren't quite sure what to think. Jon filled the eggs with yogurt melts and graham crackers but they didn't want to open the eggs to find out what was in them they just wanted to put the eggs in their mouths. But they eventually crawled around and got them all. We then gave them their Easter baskets that had a sippy cup, a talking book and a stuffed bunny in it. They were more excited about touching the grass and feeling how strange it felt. We all then had oatmeal for breakfast and then headed to church...boy was it packed, we sat in the back with all the other families with kids. We then headed to my grandma's in Maxwell for lunch. We grilled brats and burgers, very yummy! From Nana and Papa the boys got floatys to swim in the big pool with and an inflatable pool and a couple more cute puppet books. Then we headed to Jon's parents in Marshalltown and had turkey and hame and all the fixings...gosh was it yummy! From Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Janna the boys got some bibs, picture frames, a little phone that you can record a message on, little swim shirts and some treats. We got home about 7:15 gave the boys baths, their bottle and they were out!! They had a fun day and 1st Easter.

The Twins First time Swinging

On Saturday it was SO nice outside so we took full advantage and headed to my mom and dad's for an hour or so and took the boys swinging in their new swings that Nana bought them at the Multiple Garage Sale. Joel had a blast...Jackson on the other hand, well you can tell by the pictures that he wasn't crazy about it. It was windy and he didn't like that one bit!! We did accomplish one thing....we wore the boys out and they slept so well all night!

Weekend fun

We had a fun weekend with the twins. Saturday we ran lots of errands and while we were at Sam's it happened to be sample day and Jackson and Joel LOVED trying all the different foods, their favorite...mozzarella sticks, mommy's favorite too! What we like about Sam's too is they have the BIG carts and 2 babies can sit up front so it was cute to see both of the boys sitting up side-by-side we got lots of looks and comments about how cute they were sitting there. If sample day is Saturday's we might have to make that day our weekly Sam's run! When we went to Target we got the boys sunglasses...they LOVED them and to our surprise didn't mind having them on, they looked so cute riding around in the cart with them on we just laughed! Now to find them little sun hats to match their swim trunks. On Sunday we went for breakfast at Dahl's, the boys loved pancakes and hash browns and then we got some groceries and opted to stay in for the rest of the day...it was NOT nice out!!! We are ALL looking forward to nicer weather later this week.
The boys played and played and played this weekend, they were so good about playing with each other, or I guess you could say taking each other's toys and using the other to stand up. They are getting better at taking steps when they pull themselves up to something now...which is scary, we'll have walkers soon!!
Oh and all of the boys' 8 month pictures are up at Sarah's website sooo cute!! http://www.sarahmcconnell.zenfolio.com/.
