Fatherhood Friday's

I am so excited to see our boys tonight! It has been a week since we've seen them and I'm sure they have changed so much! I go a day without seeing them and it seems like they have grown 3 inches, they learn a new word, or their hair seems really long. Now I just hope they are as excited to see us as we are to see them!

I love to listen to daddy's music

And I think it's even cooler that he let me where his headphones!
Yes, I think I'm pretty big stuff!
Jackson pressing all the buttons on Daddy's BlackBerry...it was locked of course although that didn't stop his brother from dialing 911 one day. That hasn't happened since...luckily!

"Leavin' on a jet plane....

...don't know when we'll be back again."

Actually we do! We're leaving bright and early this morning to head to Cancun, Mexico and then we'll be back late Friday afternoon!! Jon and I are so excited to get away somewhere warm for a few days. We're going with Andy & Mindy and Bryce & Meggie while our kiddos all stay with our parents. We've opted for Jackson & Joel to continue to go to daycare during the day to keep their routine somewhat familiar. My mom and dad will take them to daycare everyday and then pick them up at their normal time and then they'll head out to their house to stay. We're going to miss them sooo sooo sooo much. This will be the longest time we've been away from them. I'm hoping and praying that everything goes well while we are gone. I told my mom when we booked the trip that I know they will be in good hands and she'll treat them like they're her own kids. She said, "No, I'll treat them better, because they are yours" ahhh that made me feel so good! So I know all will be fine it is just that "what if, what if, what if" that keeps running through my mind. They are both feeling really good, no colds, have been really happy and sleeping exceptionally well so the stage is set to have a good week. We'll get lots and lots of snuggling in on Friday and over the weekend when we get back!

Fatherhood Friday's

So next week we are going to be away for the boys for a whole week! We have been away from them a night here and a night there but nothing like this. It might not seem like I should miss them that much but they are my little buddies who I chase around the house every night and here giggle so loud I'm laughing so hard, I'm going to miss that. It's going to be a long week away from them but Jen & I will be in good company in Mexico and I know the boys we will taken care of by Nana & Papa. They always are when they are away from us no matter who is watching them. I will have more the following week when we get back about our trip and how the boys are. Everyone have a great weekend and next week!

Another fun play day at the mall

On Sunday we met Jon's parents for lunch at Jason's Deli and then headed to Jordan Creek to let the boys burn off some energy. We all had a fun time watching them run up and down the stairs to the slide and all over the place playing with other kids.

New stools

A good Dollar Spot find at Target were these little stools. Jon just thought they HAD to have them. Their original intention was to take to Nana and Papa's house while we're gone so they can have something to climb up on their furniture with. But they wanted to play with them right when we got home and they just love them! So, I went to Target and picked up 2 more for my mom to take home to have at their house and we'll keep a set at our house too since they are their new favorite toy!!

{Jackson eating his snacks on his stool}
{Jackie smiling when I said "cheese!"}

{Jackson & Joel on their stools. They lined them up like this up against the wall and then sat down like it was their little seat while Sesame Street was on.}
{So serious watching Sesame Street!! Joel chewing on his beads in the background}

Wanna go for a ride?

"Sure", says Sophie!!

{Jackson pushing Sophie with Joel's help...they thought this was pretty funny.}
{And even funnier that she stayed in the box for a good 5 minutes while it entertained them!}
{But then they wanted to look at her and laugh and then close the lid again!}
{She was such a good sport!}

Fatherhood Friday's

I know that Jennifer wrote on this earlier in the week but I thought I would give you an idea of that is going on in the Waters household from my eyes.

First, the boys are growing so fast. It seems like every day they are changing and learning more words and doing different tricks. It also seems like they are getting to be more and more independent. The other night we were all sitting in the living room watching TV when the cat ran upstairs, then 2 little boys who were so interested in where she was going followed. We heard them up there playing around: giggling, turning the humidifier on and off, turning their space heater on and off, opening and closing the washer and dryer oh yea and of course screaming at the cat. As this was all going on I looked over and Jennifer and said “our poor little boys are growing up so fast, they don’t even want to be around us”. It’s kind of sad but also nice that they can go out and do things on their own. I know in the next weeks, months and years this is going to be changing more and more but it just seems like here lately it is going so fast.

After seeing our kids like this it makes me so happy to be a father. When they walk in and say “DADA” or when you leave and they run over give you a kiss and hug and wave bye to you it just makes me so proud. I couldn’t ask for anymore in our 2 little men.

Update on our lives....part 2

Well on to Jon and I, we're not nearly as interesting as the boys but here is an update about us!!
  • My 3 month membership ended at Farrell's this past weekend so after much talk and deliberation/convincing, Jon and I agreed that it made more sense to sign up for a year ($693 equals out to $57.75/month) versus the 3 month membership ($237 equals out to $91/month). So that means I'm seriously committed for another year!! I'm sooo excited to keep doing Farrell's. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the kickboxing so much and since my body/knees don't allow me to run this is a perfect way for me to continue my workouts and stay fit. So I'll continue to go every morning during the week at 4:20AM and then on Saturday's when I can fit it in the mornings.
  • I'm on a mission to decorate my house. After we did our remodel on our lower level it was around the holidays so I had Halloween stuff up, then Thanksgiving and then Christmas and now after it all came down I'm left with little decor for everyday! So...I've been online hunting for berry wreath candle holders, wreaths and just cute decor to have in the house. We only have a couple sofa tables in the living room so I don't need too much stuff. In the next month I'm going to have an Uppercase Living Party because my walls are bare in some places and I desperately need some of that cute stuff!!
  • For those of you that really know me you know I'm very Type A Personality, very OCD, very organized/anal whatever you want to call it! But every night the house must be picked up before we go to bed. Jon knows this about me and it doesn't phase him anymore and he helps out every night.
  1. No dishes in the sink
  2. The counters cleaned
  3. Toys all put away
  4. Pillows and blankets nicely placed and folded on the couch
  5. Floors swept up
  6. Laundry into wash/dry
I really thought after having kids I'd loosen up a bit. But honestly, doing these things is what keeps me sane. Really it does! I sweep and mop our floors probably 3 times every week. With the hardwood floors every little crumb shows and I.JUST.CAN'T.STAND.IT!! I also vacuum twice a week. I like the carpet to be all fluffy and NEVER AGAIN will I have a frieze carpet in our house because after you walk on it, it stays down and I hate the matted look and being able to see foot prints and I like the area rugs to be all fluffed up too. Something else I do a couple times a week is ironing. Not just Jon and my clothes, but I iron the boys' clothes too. Even their little white onesis everything of theirs but socks gets ironed.

I know I'm crazy/obsessed but knowing that my house is cleaned every night makes me sleep better and when I get up in the morning it is a great start to the day. Oh, and yes I make the bed every morning and my closet is color coordinated and then sorted by short and long sleeves but I'm sure you already assumed that!!
  • I don't do any of the cooking at our house. Yep, my sweet hubby does it all! I like to make the menus, make up food on Sunday's for our snacks/lunches, but when it comes to supper, that is all Jon! Right when we get home with the boys we both go up to change our clothes and I play with the boys/keep them entertained while Jon makes supper. As you read above I like cleaning, so I do most of the picking up after supper but Jon does all the cooking.
  • My favorite time of day is at night, after we are done with supper and right before bed. I love this time because I usually sit on the floor or couch with a baby on each of my legs and they snuggle with me. I just love this mommy and baby time. The boys are really tried by 6:30 and we struggle to keep them going until bedtime at 7:30. So me being with them on the floor or Jon chasing them around the kitchen keeps them going until bedtime.
  • In just a week and a half we are going to Mexico with 2 other couples for 5 days. We are super excited to have a nice break from the winter in the warm weather. We'll miss the boys so much but mommy and daddy will be recharged when we get back! We're leaving the boys with my parents and they will take them to daycare everyday so they can keep their routine and in the evenings they'll pick them up from daycare and they'll go with Nana and Papa to the gym and then out to stay on the farm overnight.
  • In the past couple of months Jon has really gotten back into working out. Before the snow hit, he'd run a few miles at his work over his lunch but since his path is covered in snow he's been going to Accel Fitness every night after work. He likes running on the treadmill and lifting weights. He hasn't worked at Accel since last July. Wait...he did work one day last week when it was a bad snow storm the night manager couldn't make it in so he worked from 7-10 that night. The National Championship game was on so he was happy to be there with ALL the TVs and be able to watch it uninterrupted!
  • Jon could live on cookies. He honestly could. This guy loves sweets sooo much it is crazy. I don't ever bake because I don't want to have that stuff around but when his mommy makes him Tollhouse Bars he could sit and eat the whole batch in one sitting. We know where Jackie gets his sweet tooth!! He also loves to sleep. If Jon could sleep in everyday until 10 he'd be soo happy. We alternate on the weekends and we each get to sleep in one day (until 8:30) while the other is up with the boys and makes them breakfast and plays downstairs. If I'd let my hubby sleep all the time and eat cookies whenever he wanted he'd be the happiest man ever!
  • Our entryway system is completed and now needs to be stained. We are staining it to match our trim and cupboards. Jon will be busy staining that in the next few weeks so we can start using it. I'm having a hard time finding baskets that are the rights sizes to fit the cubbyholes for toys on the bottom and gloves/other misc. stuff on the top, so I'll probably have to have them custom made.
  • I am OCD about the inside of the house and Jon is OCD about the outside of the house. He hates to have people drive over the driveway before he can snowblow/shovel because then the snow is packed down on the driveway. During mowing season, he is very particular about how the yard is mowed and keeping the weeds out of it. The boys will be old enough this year he can teach them the difference between a weed and grass and they can help him pull the weeds!
Well that is a little update about what takes up our time during the weeks and some things about us!!

Gram's 73rd Birthday

On Saturday after lunch we headed over to my Grandma's house in Ankeny for cake and ice cream to celebrate her 73rd birthday which was on Sunday. Mom made her famous Texas Sheetcake and Homemade Ice Cream, wished I could've had some cake but the ice cream was sure good and felt good on my teeth! It was nice to hang out with everyone and chat for a little bit.

{Dad told Mom Gram was only 72 so she wrote 72 on her cake NOT 73 like it should have been!}

Update on our lives...the boys are 1st

I was just thinking that I really haven't written about what is really going on in our lives these days. I mean, I've shown lots of pictures, talked about the holidays, but not really given an update. So here are a some things that we're up to, what the boys are doing/liking, and just an overall update.
  • Jackson & Joel have about 6 words, their favorites: dog, cat, off. At first, I was worried because the pediatrician said at 18 months (which they will be on the 25th of January) they should have 18-20 words. But in her next sentence she said that twins usually talk to each other more than to others. It isn't that they don't talk to us, we just can't understand what they say! But they CLEARLY understand each other and that is very cute!
  • They are terrified of soap. Strange, yes! During baths we'd always make it a bubble bath and all the sudden they started realizing they had soap on their hands and would cry and freak out. So now baths are soap free!
  • From the minute we come downstairs in the mornings or walk in the door in the evenings, little Joel is pointing at the TV and saying..."eh, eh, eh, eh" until we put on Sesame Street. Yes, the kid is OBSESSED! We watch it all night (they miss it at daycare when its on during the day because they are napping) so all night it is on at our house. Oh and I forgot to mention that it's ALWAYS 1 of 2 episodes that we DVR'd because Joel like all the music and singing in them so both of the boys dance a lot. At least we got away from just playing the "entrance song" or beginning song, ya know the one that starts with "Sunny days, sweepin' the clouds away..." yes, I could recite the entire thing and then some!
  • I don't remember the last time we watched the news at night (ya know cause Sesame Street is on) and no one say that I could stay up until 10 or even until 9 to watch it on channel 17, because I get up at 3:45 every morning so we're in bed by 9 most nights if not before. Or really any show for that matter in the evenings. After we put the boys to bed we do catch up on our shows we've DVR'd for the week, which is WAAAY to many since we only have about an hour each night to watch something and we're usually a week or so behind in shows.
  • Jackson is very particular about his hands being clean at all times. They'll be eating supper and using their silverware (spoons need some work but they are great with forks) but he'll pick up a raspberry with his fingers and have red on it and say "eh, eh, eh, eh" pointing his at at you until you wipe it off. Oh well, I hate to be dirty too I guess!
  • They will find the littlest piece of paper, a fuzzy, hair, crumb, etc. and bring it to me and want me to throw it away. Making their "eck, eck, eck" sound the whole time. I say, "yes honey that is ecky let's throw it away." Too cute, we've NEVER had to worry about our boys eating paper, or toys or anything off the ground because they think it is all "ecky"!
  • The twins are VERY good at understanding what you say to them. We ask them to get diapers for us, wipes, go to the fridge and we'll get your cup, pick up your toy, where are you sunglasses, where is your phone, etc. and they always respond correctly to our question/request. Jackson was grabbing at the front of his diaper the other night and Jon said, "Jackie, do you have to go potty?" This little smarty took off and ran to the bathroom and pointed at toilet as if he wanted to be put up there to go potty. Of course when Jon placed him on the stool he got scared. But they sure are learning!!
  • They are REALLY fast at going down the stairs, one little push on their tummy and they've zoomed all the way down. I've started to let them go up and down as they want when we're home. A little more freedom than I should give an almost 18 month old? Probably, but it's sure nice to have them know that it's ok to go up and believe it or not they really don't get into anything when they are up there. They like to go up and get my cheap bracelets out of my jewelry box (it is the drawer they can reach) and then they bring them down to me. Like "look mommy what we found/got into!" Oh well a little exploring never hurt anyone!
  • Joel is learning to count. We use 1, 2, 3 when they go down the slide (we have 2 of the Little Tikes outside toys with slides in the basement). We always say, "1, 2, 3 go" and Joel doesn't really get 1 but he says "2" then looks as he goes down on "fwe" (3).
  • Their personalities are showing more and more every. single. day! The boys were playing in our closet while I was getting ready and we have a vase in there with change in it and the boys were putting their hands in the vase. I said, "Jackson, Joel out of the vase please" and Jackson listened walked out of the closet. Our little fire-ball, Joel, giggled visciously and dove deeper in the vase with his hands doing his viscous giggle the whole time. Little stinker but that is how he is with everything, he tries to get away with more while his brother knows better!
  • Jackson is a big helper. He loves to help clean, using the swiffer, the duster, the vacuum (which as you know we've named the monster) but he carries the "tail" aka the cord, around for me while I vacuum.
  • They are both really good at giving things to each other, we say, "take X (paci, sippy, blanky, etc.) to your brother" and they do it. It is so cute!! Now there isn't any kissing or lovely between them like you sometimes hear people talk about twin girls like that. Now when I say, "Jackson give your brother a kiss" they both kiss each other. Again super cute!
  • They are taking 2 naps a day. We were down to one 3-3.5 hour nap during the middle of the day and they'd go to bed at 7 but wake up at 4:30 or 5 every morning. I didn't care, since I've already said I'm up at 3:45 but Jon was getting a little tired of it. Talked to the pediatrician and she said to go back to two 1.5 naps and push bed-time back until 7:20 or 7:30 and see if that helps. Sure enough, within 2 days the boys weren't waking until 6 (which is when we wake them during the week) and were sleeping until 6:30 or 7 on the weekends!! So even though they are almost 18 months we do two naps. Just like the pediatrician said, you guys are up so early to leave the house some kids are just different.
  • They are both blanky boys...they carry them everywhere and must have them almost all the time. They do know that once they walk into daycare they have to turn over their pacis and blankies to Lori's and that is the first thing they do, they had them to her. Also, when we get ready to eat or the bath they know that the blanky and paci get put on the counters so they pull them out of their mouths and say "eh, eh, eh" meaning her mama is my blanky and paci like a big boy!
Well, I think that is enough updating for one day although I KNOW I could write more about what the boys are doing since I haven't in so long! I didn't even get to Jon or I. I'll do another little update tomorrow or later this week.

Fatherhood Friday's - Playground at the Mall

I have always looked at the play places in the mall and just despised them! Kids running all over the place, parents using them as a babysitter while they shop and of course ALL the germs! So what did we do? Last weekend we took the boys to the one at Jordan Creek! Jen and Mindy had taken the twins and Brady there on Thursday while they were both off and Jen said how much they loved it! So we went back over the weekend and this was my first experience there and I would have to say it was a good one. The boys loved it so much! At points it was hard to find them since they were running all around and there were probably 40-50 kids running around as well. They were such big boys going down the slides all along and then running back over to the stairs to climb back up and do it all again! Seeing their little faces and how happy there were really brought a smile to my face. We will definitely have to make another trip out there. The other good thing...it wears them out so they were pretty sleepy on the way home.

Love, Jon (Dada)

Oh and Jen is having her wisdom teeth out this morning (maybe she'll be a little more wise..haha just jokin' honey) everyone please pray for a quick recovery for her! Love you babe.

Cookies....

....for supper?!?!
Yes, Jon just HAD to get a picture of this as "evidence" he said...I came home from working out and he said Jackson didn't want to eat supper. I had made cookies during the day with them and Jon said he just kept pointing at the plate of them them saying "ehh, ehh, ehh" and he told him "NO" about 15 times and he could have a treat AFTER he ate. So what did I do....I put him in his highchair and let him have at them! He ate about 2 bites but had to finger all of them! He was sooo happy and just smiled the whole time! Yes, mama is a push-over!

Where's Sophie?

Jackson & Joel both have an obsession with Sophie, they like to follow her around, chase her, pet/pat her and annoy her!! Although she acts as though she doesn't like it, she really does LOVE their attention and will go out of her way to walk in front of them. The twins' latest...watching her as she potties and eats down in the basement.

Christmas at Grandma Millie's

Our final Christmas was last Sunday with my dad's side, my Grandma Millie. We had sooo much yummy food!! It was soup day which was a nice change from the traditional Christmas food that we had at my other Grandma's. So Gram made a good chili soup, Kyli made a potato bacon and mom made french onion. I made about 4 different appetizers and along with the goodies mom and I had baked we had MORE than enough food!! For our gifts here we do a white elephant exchange. We all buy a $30-$40 gift and then we draw a card and the person with the highest card picks last. You can steal a gift no more than 3 times so it makes for a fun game!! The hit item this year...the Iowa rock that Jon bought. He wanted it and sure enough we ended up with it!! He is very excited!
