Fatherhood Friday's

As many of you know I am the cook around our house. I don’t really get this because Jen's grandma is a great cook as is her mother but I don’t know what happened to Jen. Maybe she just doesn’t want to cook or maybe she really doesn’t know how to cook but the good thing is that I like to cook and my mom is a great cook so I've learned a lot from her. I am always up for new recipes or finding new ways to cook the things we like. With Jen doing her pictures we are kind of stuck in a rut with what we are eating. It seems like we are having the same things each week (fajitas, stir fry, spaghetti, tacos and pork chops). With the cold weather coming I am always looking for more stuff to do, and for more stuff to cook in the crock pot so that it is ready for us when we get home. If any of you people reading this (I don’t really know if anyone reads this) has any good recipes let us know since we are always willing to try new stuff.
We hope that everyone has a fun and safe Halloween!

Love Jon/DADA

I've Been Tagged!

Ashley tagged me to answer the following here are my answers.

1. What is the last book you read and what did you learn from it?
The last book I read as probably 5 months ago or actually probably more called One and the Same, a book about raising identical twins. I learned a lot from that book and it's a post I've been meaning to write...some day when I have more time in my life I'm going to do a whole weeks post about the book. The last book I read really....was one of many children's books I read to Jackson and Joel, everynight before bed we read "Pookie'" and "The Going to Bed Book".

2. Where in your home do you go to relax and unwind?
It is always at night, after the boys go to bed I sit down with the laptop and edit pictures. It's a great way for me to unwind and relax...well if you find that sort of thing relaxing!

3. If you could relive one day in your life what day would that be and why?
For sure it would be the day we found out we were having twins. I was a little over 11 weeks pregnant and had been sicker than a dog and laying on that ultrasound table when I asked the nurse about my due date fluctuating she said "oh well 2 babies will cause your due date to fluctuate for sure!" I started crying with tears of joy because I secretly always wanted twins and I was sooo excited and happy. But from that day on our lives were forever changed!

4. What is your favorite movie?
Ummm...I tend to like all movies. I love The Rock, Runaway Jury, Dear John, anything that people would call a "chick flick".

5. Would you rather lose a friendship because of honesty or keep a friendship because of a lie?
I've always been an upfront person so honesty.

6. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? (from the time you get up to the time you walk out the door.)
I would say about 15 minutes. I get up at 6 (on my we don't carpool) and get myself ready and then get the boys up by 6:15 or 6:20 so about 15-20 minutes. On days when Jon and I carpool, I get up at 5:45 and I'm ready by 6:05.

7. What is your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas for sure! Normally the day after Thanksgiving I do ALL of my Christmas shopping, and get the tree from the tree farm and get the house ALL decorated for Christmas, I go all out!! I just can't wait to get my house all Christmasy and I LOVE LOVE listening to Christmas music and Lite 101 has 24/7 Christmas music starting the day after Thanksgiving! I also love all the family time we have, going to church with our families and wrapping gifts for people, I love everything about Christmas...great, now I'm all excited and I have a month to wait!!

If you know me at all, you know that I've ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS said that I will NEVER own a minivan EVER no ifs, ands, or buts about it, NEVER! I don't care how much a big Suburban is or that it won't fit in our garage or that I'll have to work forever to make payments on it. I will NEVER NEVER in my lifetime own a minivan, a soccer mom vehicle, grocery-getter, whatever you want to call it!

Well, the time has come....I think our next vehicle will be a minivan, a Toyota Sienna to be exact! We're going to Toyota tonight to test drive and look at one because I've never set foot in one or even cared to hear how amazing they are! That always went in one ear and out the other! But...if I'm serious about wanting to try and stay home, like you all say I should, and do this photography thing and be happy with my work. Then we really need to put ourselves in a place to make that happen. So since the lease is up on our Toyota Highlander at the end of the year now is the time to make the move to something more affordable and kid and mommy friendly.

You say we should just keep our Highlander it has a 3rd row and seats 8....well you're right it does. But with the 3rd row up you can't get anything in the trunk area so a lot of good that does if I can't get a stroller or groceries in the back. Plus, it is so high off the ground that the boys can't even crawl in on their own and think if I have my hands full how nice it would be for them to be able to climb in and crawl up to their seats on their own.

So tonight will be the test, I'm still not sold on the idea and neither is Jon but a $30,000 vehicle versus a $50,000 or $60,000 vehicle is a HUGE difference and it looking more and more promising! Plus the 2011 are very sharp looking and we're loving the black color, so we'll see!

Semi-Wordless Wednesday

So it's no secret that the boys have been biters at daycare, at home, and pretty much everywhere! So when I saw these shirts a few months ago I HAD to buy them! Love it they are so fitting for them...although biting, not so funny, hopefully it is something they'll grow out of, hey, I did! Like mother like son!

If you asked Jackson & Joel what the monkey said, that's what they'd tell you while holding their hands under their arms as monkenys do! Last Thursday all of the boys headed up to Old Main to do some Trick-or-Treating at the local businesses. They had fun walking around, except when we walked into one of the hair salons they thought they were getting their hair cut and started crying. Silly little monkeys!

GO Horsey!!!

The boys LOVE it when Jon plays horsey! If one gets on the other has to get on right away and whichever boy is on demands that the other boy get on at the same time and ride! It's soo cute they just hold on to his shirt and tuck their feet in and giggle as Jon walks around the house.
{Jackson & Joel}Joel pointing and saying "go, go, go!"The horsey died in the bathroom, he had to take a rest (we don't normally have pillows in the bathroom but the boys like to hide them in there and then shut the door and leave them in there...strange, I know!
Jon talked them into the horseys resting in the kitchen so I caught them going "nite nite!"

Fatherhood Friday's

With Jen taking pictures it has taken us to new places that we would probaly not normally go as a family. We have seen lots of jungle jims, slides, types of grasses, flowers, rocks, water and bridges. Last week the boys and I went on several photo trips with her and the boys were in a good mood so we walked around Grimes Farm in Marshalltown. It is a local nature preserve so we pretty much got to see all of the above. T he boys most favorite part by far was throwing the rocks into the lagoon. We probably threw 1000 rocks between the 3 of us. They had such a good time and laughed through all of it. We are all excited to see where Jennifer’s adventures will take us all next!

Weekend Recap

Well another full-filled weekend in the Waters household. Friday night we had a bonfire on the neighbors patio, gosh it was nice to see some friends, it had been way too long! Saturday morning I had a couple photo sessions and then we headed to Marshalltown to Jon's parents house to watch the Iowa game and I got in a nap while the boys played with Grandma and Aunt Janna. We headed to church that night and then attended the baptisms of our newest little cousins Lars and Carter who were born just a couple days apart from each other. We had a nice family get-together afterwards and then headed back to Ankeny.

Sunday brought a long day of pictures for me I had 5 total. I have 3 newborn photo sessions to squeeze in over the next few weeks so I got one done on Sunday. What a sweet little girl! Anyways, I got home and the boys were napping and my wonderful husband had ALL of the cleaning done!! There are 3 things that are on his "will not do list" dust, sweep and mop the floors, and iron and he did ALL of them!! I was sooo happy and excited to not have to come home and crank out all of the weekly cleaning. Thank you so much for all your help honey! We woke the boys up at 4 and headed back to Marshalltown for a couple more photo sessions. We met Jon' parents for supper and headed back home. We had a fun and busy weekend.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend!

Fun at a new park

On Friday I had a photo shoot at Sandpiper which is at Saylorville, my new favorite place! I called Jon and told him after he picked up the boys to come on out and meet me there so they could play at the park while I worked and so I could see them a little bit more that night. They LOVED all the slides, there are 4 to be exact, and the ground is that rubbery tire chip stuff, it was so much fun! I love that location because it is great bribery for kids to behave during pictures!

Fatherhood Friday's

It seems like in the past few months that time has been the most important thing around our house. There are just not enough hours in the day for us to get everything done. It also doesn’t help that it is starting to get dark at 6:30 lately and let's just say that this winter isn’t going to be fun for the boys if we can't get outside. The boys love to be outside but by the time we get home and eat dinner it is pretty much dark out so not much play time outside. Jen has also been working on taking pictures and staying up till late working on these pictures (by late I mean soemtimes like 5am and up at 6 to get to work). So she is tired in the evenings and doesn’t want to sacrifice time with the boys for sleep and I don’t blame her for that. What we need is more hours in the day or less working hours in the day. I don’t know how that one is going to work out but we can sure hope!

What we're into these days

The new favortie in the house is Sid the Science Kid...a pretty interesting show! They'll understand it more in a year or so but they sure love it when Sid sings with all of his friends!

The boys alwasy have to have their "hi's" they take them to bed and pretend to text each other from across the room. My mom bought the boys some toy dinosaurs at the multiples garage sale a week ago and they LOVE them! I'll have to do a post just on them but Jackson is obsessed with lining them up!

Coloring will never get old and that makes me excited! I LOVE to color and craft and so do the boys! After they color or we let them use markers too all over a page they take it to the kitchen and hang it on the fridge they are sooo pround of their art work!
And of course Sesame Street, they are so excited there are new ones that record everyday and now there is a "Super Grover" part similar the Elmo's World so they really like that. Grover was my favorite growing up and they seem to like him too!

We love to play outside!

We've really been enjoying playing outside lately! The boys love to play in the sandbox too and build or better yet ruin the sand castles that we build for them!
Even Sophie likes to get outside and play...
Jackson loves to swing even though they haven't figured out how to pump their legs yet.
{Jackson}They even push each other on the swings they are such good brothers to each other!

Fatherhood Friday's

Here lately we have been busy to say the least. I don’t remember the last time the family as a whole just sat down and relaxed. Jennifer has been busy with her pictures and the boys and I have been busy helping her get stuff ready for fall and for her studio. Last week we moved the cats food and water upstairs and so far the boys have loved it. They really enjoy filling up her bowls and watching her eat and drink. It is pretty funny stuff and surprisingly they haven’t made a mess out of it yet. Here is a glimpse of how it is every night with the boys and kitty.

There's no time... read all the blogs I once read everyday take pictures of my own kids finish putting together my photography studio actually practice using my lights after I had someone come and tutor me for 3 hours shop for outfits for a wedding this weekend shop for gifts for upcoming birthdays/weddings/baptisms do all the work I have to do at work since we're down 2 paralegals workout during my lunch hour or in the early morning blog

I can't possibly keep up with one more thing right now and I know a lot of you have noticed that I haven't posted much this week on this blog. Especially when I was so good at blogging EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. Honestly, this family blog has become #2 to my photography blog right now. I'm sooo busy with pictures and posting 2 or 3 previews each day for paying clients. So unfortunately, for all my friends and family I've not been blogging on here. And truth be told, I haven't gotten my camera out much at home because I am behind it EVERY DAY/NIGHT sometimes 5-6 times a day with a client!

So until things slow down for my photography and I'm not up until 2-5AM every night/morning editing and working on pictures I won't be doing much blogging on here. So if you miss seeing pictures of the boys or hearing about our lives you'll have to just stop by the house, or check out my facebook page, I do try and keep my pictures current on there.

So if you've been wondering where I've been that's the update! And if you're asking, "she's complaining but I thought she wanted this?" You're right, I DO want this and I LOVE LOVE LOVE what I'm doing and I'm really not complaining just telling you how things are right now. Things will slow down again I know they will, I just need to make it through October!

Where did the weekend go

Well another weekend has come and gone...why do they have to go so fast! I slept in Saturday morning since I had many late, late nights during the week. Jon headed to Iowa City at 9:15 and the boys and I went with my mom to the craft show and off to do some shopping. I put the boys down for their nap and mom finished her errands. She came by later to pick them up as I was having a tutor come over and teach me how to use my lights in my studio! I was super excited and got 3 hours of good information! Then I headed out to stay at my parents for the night.

Jon requested that we stay out there since he didn't get home until 2AM from the Iowa game and he wanted to sleep on Sunday morning. I came back to Ankeny for 3 photo shoots in the morning and then went back to my parents had lunch and came home and the boys took naps while I worked on pictures and Jon did a few things around the house. His parents came up and hung out and played with the boys and then went to supper while I headed off to Urbandale for another photo shoot. After getting home around 7:3o it was time for baths and bed and a late night for me!
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and have a great week!
